Dr. Binod C. Agrawal, pioneer of holistic study and qualitative research and quantitative survey in development and communication, is an international communication expert who carried out a number of formative, process and impact studies in information technology and television (1973-1993). He is an established leader of satellite communication applications studies, health care and opinion poll survey.
Dr. Binod C. Agrawal is well-traveled; teacher and educator who combines Anthropology with Architecture, Design and Planning, Development, Satellite Communication and Education. He is founder of several educational and research institutions and has published books and articles in national and international journals.
Until recently Dr Binod C Agrawal was Professor of Eminence and Director General TALEEM Research Foundation, Ahmedabad (2008-2015) which he founded as Director (1995-2008) . He is also Founder Vice Chancellor of Himgiri Zee University (formerly known as Himgiri Nabh Vishwavidyalaya) Dehradun (2005 - 2012) and Founder Director of Mudra Institute of Communications Ahmedabad(1993-1994).

Area of Specialization: Qualitative in-depth communication research and evaluation, development communication and rural and tribal development 1973-1995. While working at Space Applications Centre, ISRO Ahmedabad, participated in several consulting projects as a team leader and team member. Important among them include UNESCO, UNICEF and FAO supported consulting study projects. For consulting work visited institutions in USA and Italy; Significant among them include East-West Centre, Honolulu, Hawaii and FAO Rome.
Program Research and Evaluation 1995 –2015: Project Director and Member of the Research Team in several consulting health, communication, opinion poll and rehabilitation action and research projects of Central and State Government of India and International Agencies like USAID, UNDP, NACO, UNICEF, DFID to mention a few including private sector like Zee Media, Tata Chemicals, Adani Group and non-government organizations.
Major areas covered include: Health, Commissioned by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India: District Level Household Survey on Reproductive and Child Health (DLHS-RCH) in the states of Assam, Gujarat, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland and Uttarakhand. Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) - India in the states of Gujarat and Rajasthan; Health consequences of Domestic Violence with special reference to Reproductive Health in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa, Competent of World Bank sponsored health surveys in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
Communication and Media Studies: DFID, sponsored project developed IED packages and digital divide evaluation of India America Foundation. Other sponsored studies included IT and Television studies.
Opinion Poll Survey: Zee News sponsored National Opinion Poll 2004 and 2014, Assembly Elections, Gujarat, Bihar, Uttarakhand and several other States of India. Self supported opinion polls of Bihar ( 2005), Uttarakhand (2012) and Gujarat (2007, 2009 and 2012) Assemblies.
Rehabilitation: worked as team leader for earthquake rehabilitation and reconstruction in Gujarat from 2001 to 2004.
International Travel and Professional Participation
Lived in U. S. from 1964-1971 as graduate student and teaching faculty, University of Wisconsin, Madison (1964-1969) and Iowa State University, Ames Iowa (1969-1971). Visited other parts of US and Canada for attending meetings and for teaching (1978-2015).
During 1979 and 1980 visited Hawaii, USA as participant and Fellow to share SITE experiences with Asia-Pacific Scholars on Development Communication.
Have been visiting Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC) Singapore (1984-2012), NHK, U.N. University Japan, Hong Kong, Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Brazil, England, Germany, France Czechoslovakia, Russia and Holland to participate in meetings and seminars since 1974.
Worked as research team member during 1989 to 1993 on Indo-Canadian collaborative comparative research project on "Social Impact of Computer in Higher Education". Visited Canada thrice for short duration to participate in the project activities (1989-1993).
Coordinated Asian segment of UNESCO sponsored “Video Flow Study” and visited Brazil (1984).
Visited and successfully negotiated for collaboration with several foreign universities like Moscow State University, University of Tallahassee, Florida State University, and University of Regina for Himgiri Zee University between 206-2010. Also, for PlastIndia Foundation proposed university as member of team, negotiated successfully for collaboration with University of Massachusetts (UMass) and University of Wisconsin in 2012.
